City of Kearney, MO

2024 Proposed Water & Sewer Rate Information

The City of Kearney is proposing an increase to water and sewer rates to comply with new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulatory standards, cover increased operating expenses, replace equipment and improve system maintenance. The city provides a safe and continuous supply of drinking water to our residents and protects water quality and public health by cleaning the city’s wastewater before it is returned to the environment. To ensure the city can continue providing these services in future years, it is important that rates are set at the necessary level to cover operating, maintenance, and upgrade costs to our water and wastewater systems.

Rates Compared to Neighbors

Kearney is one of the most affordable communities in the Kansas City area for water and sewer utility rates. Even with the proposed rate increase, Kearney’s rates will be less than many of our neighbors.

2024

Rate Increase

The average Kearney household uses 3,000 gallons of water each month. Under the proposed rate schedule, the average residential combined water and sewer bill will increase $4.49 per month. Households that use 2,000 gallons of water or less each month will not increase. The $8 per month senior discount amount remains unchanged.
